Lagoon of Santiago


The Lagoon of Santiago (portuguese name Lagoa de Santiago) is related to the volcanic massif of the Seven Cities (portuguese name Sete Cidades), on the island of São Miguel, Azores.
This lagoon is located in Serra Devassa, the bottom of a volcanic crater. It has a length of 700 meters, a width of 475 meters per one water depth of 29 meters.

Lagoa das Sete Cidades

The Lagoon of Seven Cities (portuguese name Lagoa das Sete Cidades) is the largest fresh-water lake of Azores. The north-south maximum length of the lake is 4,2km with a width of 2km and has a maximum depth of 33m. The lake has a length of 4,35 square km and consists in two lagoons, the Green Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon. The legend says the blue and green colours of those waters were formed by the tears shed by a couple in a misunderstood love…

Azorean Chaffinch

Fringilla coelebs moreletti (portuguese name Tentilhão dos Açores) it's accustomed to human presence in viewpoints, picnic parks and public gardens. Although it can be heard for most of the year, it's characteristic song begins to hear more intensely from February until the end of June.
