Lagoa das Sete Cidades

The Lagoon of Seven Cities (portuguese name Lagoa das Sete Cidades) is the largest fresh-water lake of Azores. The north-south maximum length of the lake is 4,2km with a width of 2km and has a maximum depth of 33m. The lake has a length of 4,35 square km and consists in two lagoons, the Green Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon. The legend says the blue and green colours of those waters were formed by the tears shed by a couple in a misunderstood love…

This beach is located in the city of Lagos, Algarve.

Actitis hypoleucos (portugueses name maçarico-das-rochas) is a common species in Portugal and is distributed all over the country.

Attends all types of wetlands, whether freshwater, brackish or salt.

It can be observed throughout the year.

Access is by a long staircase. Is a very quiet beach and visited by surfers.
